The sun is out at Ladybower Reservoir

The sun is out

Oh wow what beautiful weather we are having, the sun is out. Not only is the sun shining but it is extremely warm. Everyone who lives or is visiting the Peak District have come out of their homes to go walking or cycling. The ducks on the river are being well fed by the children in Bakewell and all the local cafe’s and pubs are being enjoyed by everyone.
Both the road cyclists and the mountain bikers are out in their huge numbers eating up the miles in the warm weather and then stopping in the villages for their fuel (locally made flapjack and cakes) to help them up the next hill on the next part of their ride. Ladybower Reservoir, still full and over flowing and looking spectacular from the many months of winter rain and snow. It is very popular in this lovely weather with groups of walkers and cycling families, roadies and mountain bikers alike. The area is even more special as the surrounding fields are full of tiny lambs and even some new born calves.
The daffodils are now out in full bloom, our trees and bushes are budding which is making our scenery change daily. The ground is drying out so the mountain bikers are able to go off road more, up on top of our mountains across our hills and back down again all without too much mud splashing in their faces. It’s also lovely to see all the motor cyclist and soft top cars out again making the most of this welcome change in the weather.
This last weekend, Graham and a cycling buddy went to marshal at a junction on the British Heart Foundation Peak District MTB Challenge. There were over 400 riders taking part across both of the routes, one route was 69 Km with 2180m of climbing and the other, 37Km with 1080m of climbing. All in all what a great ride enjoyed by everyone taking part. What a nice coincidence, as a couple staying at our B&B last weekend were marshals on the same cycle event and then the following day they were marshals at the Chatsworth 10k run.
Today we have just heard the date has been provisionally set for Saturday 22nd September for the Hope Valley Mountain Bike Challenge. For any mountain bikers wishing to take part keep checking their website www.hopevalleymbc.co.uk for confirmation of the date, times and application form. At the point of typing this we still have availability if you want to book to stay over that weekend.
