Tideswell Dale in the winter sunshine

Tideswell Dale makes a lovely starting point for a pleasant four mile walk, taking in the village of Litton, with its traditional Peak District pub , The Red Lion, and small café on the green where you can take a leisurely refreshment stop. The route takes you past Litton Mill, beautifully converted to apartments which is alongside the River Wye flowing onto Cressbrook and beyond. A small detour up a tough flight of steps, will take you up onto the top to see the disused quarry in the Dale, where they used to extract Basalt, crush it and use in road building . The whole area is rich in wildlife, birds and many varieties of plants and flowers, indeed on todays walk we saw a yellow wagtail playing on the side of stream running along the path down the Dale and a kestrel hovering while spotting its lunch.
